Amazingly, the game of Evony is fast approaching the userbase of the once unstoppable World of Warcraft game.

While they are both different games, (WoW being a localised software installed / based game) as opposed to Evony Free Forever being a complete browser based game – the comparisons were always going to happen.

The makers of Evony; the UMGE group with links to World of Warcraft Gold delivery have done well to create a powerful game in a small package, that offers a lot to players with limited time on their hands. The ability to play Evony at work or school in a browser and setup; builds, attacks or general plays then shy away from the game is proving very handy for many players with bosses looking over their shoulder at work.

How do you play games at work without the boss seeing or knowing you are doing it? Well in the past; games like Wolf3d for DOS and others had a ‘boss key’ where you would press a combination of keys and it would switch the screen to a blank color or fake application to make it look like you were working.

With the game of evony, you can use tabbed browsing to play or build something then quickly switch over to a work application or another web page while the action (such as constructing a building in evony, attacking a town or something similar can be performed over time automatically)

A very handy feature.

Now in terms of user base, World of Warcraft from Blizzard claims to have 11 million players. A very impressive feat given that almost all of these players are paying somewhere around $20US a month to play the MMORPG game. Very handy repeat income monthly for Blizzard.

For Evony, they are hovering at a claimed 8 million users. Certainly staggering given that the game was only officially release in May this year (2009).

Certainly the unleashing of Google ads has helped UMGE flood the market with awareness of Evony. The uptake from attractive adverts must have been huge.

Pay for play with evony coins is optional, so the income for UMGE won’t be anywhere near that of World of Warcraft owners Blizzard just yet.

But if they continue to build, improve and of course advertise Evony like they are – the sky is the limit. They could really have the market swinging there way, as they have virtually created a niche market in itself – inside the browser based gaming world.

We watch the future with plenty of interest.
