The Evony Future
As we enter 2010, what can we expect to see from Evony Free Forever as we move into the future?
After hitting the public in May 2009, the response (on the back of a solid, expensive AdSense campaign) was certainly a success.
While we’ll never know what financial numbers Evony LLC pulled from their game, they certainly got users through the doors.
Anywhere between 5 and 10 million account signups in a 6 month period is staggering, this is viral, almost exceptional growth.
Even constant barbs from the likes of Bruce Everiss couldn’t stop Evony rolling on in 2009. If anything, the attention from Everiss (Bruceongames.com) continued to keep Evony in the spotlight. And when Everiss worked to produce YouTube videos to paint Evony as an evil, malware, steal-your computer type game – it heaped even more attention on the free browser based game.
Its been a back to the future type situation for Evony. While developers UMGE did well to bring new graphics, decent sound and addictive gameplay – they kept things simple, such as the interface and threw in the bits that gamers have liked for years;
Things like -
Resource development
Alliance based play
Turn based strategy
Success through expansion
These core fundamentals ensured the success of the massively multiplayer game.
What lies ahead?
For Evony, it needs continued expansion, improvement and tweaking. Nothing, no game is perfect – and additional features, more map area and the weeding out of botting, farming and general cheating is the biggest concern.
Like World of Warcraft, Evony needs more excitement to keep experienced gamers coming back year after year. The once thing that Evony has the upper hand in is growth, not even Blizzards’ WoW grew its user base so quickly and the benefits of free web browser gaming – its accessible by anyone, pretty much anywhere.
Speeds, PC specs and all those expensive requirements are always needed.
